The Jebel Jais mountain peak is already internationally renowned for being the epicentre of adventure in the United Arab Emirates and the outlying Middle East. RAK Leisure, the adventure and lifestyle subsidiary of RAK Hospitality Holding (RAKHH), and the Ras Al Khaimah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RAKCCI) have proudly increased its appeal by adding the thrilling Jais Sledder operated by the Warrior Group.

The Jais Sledder sits comfortably on a low-slung track. You'll reach up to 40 kilometres per hour as you hurtle down the Hajar mountain range swerving through glorious panoramas with views of the spectacular coastline. The speed seems amplified ten-fold because you are sitting so close to the ground. The fully-controllable ride takes about seven minutes to cover 1,885 exhilarating metres of hairpin curves and undulating waves that takes seven minutes from top to bottom.

The Jais Sledder is built to the highest safety and technical standards and adheres to the ISO 19202 criteria, and the latest design technology specific to planning track, design and calculation, manufacturing, build, and testing requirements for summer sledding activities. The sleds are designed to seat two people comfortably, one in front and the other in the back. You are safely secured into the sled, and each sledder has access to the braking system. You can purchase Jais Sledder tickets in bundles of one or three from the office at the Jais Welcome Centre; don't worry, you can always go back for more! You can choose to share the experience with a friend or a member of your family or go superhero-solo.

The advent of the sled is not entirely known. Sweden and Norway recorded various early kicksled races during the 15th century. The modern sport of sledding originated in St Mortiz, Switzerland, in the mid-to-late 19th century, where wealthy vacationers adapted delivery sleds for recreational races. Typically sleds were developed in areas with much winter snow and used as transportation for people and materials. Early designs included hand-pulled, dog, ox and horse-drawn versions. Ancient Egyptians are thought to have used sleds on the desert sands for transporting construction materials. The adrenaline-provoking sport was added to the winter Olympic Games by Fédération Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing (FIBT) in 2002.

Advance booking is recommended particularly over weekends and busy holiday periods, however not mandatory.

Terms and Conditions

Guests must be minimum of 3 years old and a minimum of 97 cm to ride the sled.
Guests between the heights of 97 cm and 122 cm must ride as a passenger and must be accompanied by an adult (driver) who is at least 122 cm tall.
Guests 122 cm and taller may ride as one or two guests may ride together (each needs an individual ticket).
The combined weight of driver and passenger cannot exceed 150 kgs, and riders must be able to wear the seatbelt correctly.
Jais Sledder tickets may be purchased at Jais Adventure Park ticket windows during operating hours (ticket windows close 30 minutes before park closing time).
Guests under the influence of any form of drug or alcohol are not permitted to participate in this activity.
This activity is restricted for those who are (a) pregnant or think they may be pregnant or with the following medical conditions:
- (b) a heart condition, (c) seizure condition, (d) history of back or neck injury, or (e) any other medical condition that prevents the guest from following the safety rules and guidelines.
Drivers or passengers are not permitted to touch the track.
Drivers are not permitted to stop the sled on the track unless in the case of an emergency.
Drivers are required to maintain a minimum distance of 25 metres from the sled ahead.
No backpacks or bags, animals, umbrellas, bulky, pointed, or loose objects are allowed on the ride. No food or gum is allowed on the ride. Before beginning the ride, all loose clothing and hair below shoulder length must be secured.
For the entire duration of the ride, participants must have seat belts on, remain seated and keep their arms and legs inside the sled.
Guests must present a physical ticket to access the sled for each ride.
Guests who purchase tickets for three rides need to complete all the rides on the same day of the booking.
Jais Adventure Park retains the right to change/close rides at any time due to weather, wildlife, capacity or force majeure.
All participants are required to sign a waiver. A parent or guardian will need to sign a waiver for participants under 18 years old.

Driver requirements

At least 122 cm tall
Must be physically capable of maintaining a seated position and using safety restraints.
Ability to follow all verbal and written directions.
Ability to visually recognise the sled in front of them to maintain a safe following distance.
Ability to operate brake levers to control the sled’s speed.
The combined weight of the riders (maximum of two) per sled cannot exceed 150 kgs.

Passenger requirements

At least 97 cm tall.
No minimum age for passengers if they meet minimum height and weight requirements.
Passengers should be capable of holding onto the front handle while the sled is in motion.

Arriving at Jais Sledder

Please arrive no later than 30 minutes before sledding. If you are not on time, you will be considered a no show and forfeit 100 per cent of your payment in line with the terms and conditions. There are various transport options to get to the mountains.

Recording your experience

Whilst it is prohibited to bring your mobile phone or camera, you can hire a GoPro from the Warrior Group. The camera fits neatly on to your helmet and will record your entire exhilarating experience.

Weather conditions

The Warrior Group reserves the right to make any operational changes considered necessary for safety or operational concerns. The weather in Ras Al Khaimah is usually consistent, but there can be rare sand or rainstorms.

Changing the booking

The Warrior Group understands that sometimes there is an unavoidable change of plans and will, where possible, accommodate amendments and cancellations without penalty.

Hotels and accommodation are in all directions. The Bear Grylls Explorers Camp offers a unique outdoor lodging experience in its sixteen cabins. The unique accommodation is designed to host up to three adults, or two adults and one child, with basic self-catering facilities, including a private BBQ to prepare meals.
